It would be a fun and interesting game variant if cards, once discarded, could change affiliation once redrawn. This would accurately represent what happens with characters like Brienne, Tyrion, The Hound, Ser Davos etc...in the books who change House Affiliation after being "played" by their original house.

Of course we have to keep the numbers balanced so my proposed method is:

After a card is played it is discarded into a neutral discard pile of all house cards of equal strength. Once cards are redrawn, each house/player draws one card of each of the following strengths: 0, 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 4 at random (excluding the strength corrosponding to their last card played).

I think this would add some fun minor deviation to the game. The odds of redrawing your own cards are higher than not, and it is most likely that the 1 and 2 strength cards would show the most variability of house affiliation, and Stark would adopt other cards more frequently than other houses because of Roose (who could still be snatched up by other houses if misplayed or patchface'd.

Please let me know what you all think. These were rules I came up with for a team based version of this game but I think they would be fun for regular game play.

Absolutely terrible idea since it would nerf GJ and Tyrell too much

But could be amusing if you're playing for fun!

What's wrong with a bit of nerving? It doesn't always have to be Lanny who get's nerved (as is by default settings) .

Sounds interesting, like something I'd try once and then decide. Since house card redrawing is asynchronous I assume discarded cards would be sorted by printed value, and you'd draw the appropriate amount from each pile. Solid backed card sleeves would be a must.

The most interesting to me about his idea is that you won't know for sure which cards each person has if they've picked up. I think that could make for some really cool surprise plays, and introduce even more paranoia. I think starting each house off with a randomized deck, and maybe only the two direct combatants seeing what cards were played could be interesting. Hopefully the game would be taken light enough that this wouldn't introduce AP.

I assume people would mostly play their crappy cards first, unless they knew they were going to pickup next. Not sure if this would make people mroe or less likely to fight- get random cards to surprise people with, but they're more likely to be crappy. Patchface would indeed be much more of a threat. I'm worried this will make pickup time too important. I do think that roose should be thrown into the pile when his ability is used, to make abusing him less prevalent.
