Topic: Defensive Mace Tyrell with ships in harbour
Posted: 2018-Nov-30 11:19
Hey guys,

I am facing a rare and difficult situation where I'm not sure which rules would apply. This is the situation:

I play GJ, my enemy is Tyrell.
Tyrell has conquered Lannisport which has 3 (Lannister) ships in its harbour. The ships are thus now Tyrell's. I (Grejoy) am now about to attack Tyrell in Lannisport with only one footman. If Tyrell chooses Mace Tyrell as House Card, I would still win but my only attacking footman would be lost. Tyrell would have to retreat. There are no power tokens in Lannisport.

Who would the three ships in the port belong to after the battle?

- Greyjoy? (won the battle)
- Tyrell? (last owner of the ships)
- Lannister? (ships are located in the capital of Lannister) Would Lannister then receive a message before the GJ-Tyrell battle if Lannister wants to keep or destroy the ships after the battle. (This question is always asked to the attacker when attacking an area with port)
- Nobody/ships destroyed? (ships can not be in a harbour of a territory without units/power token/garrison)

Does anyone have any ideas?

It's in the FAQ - ships in a neutral port are destroyed https://images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com/filer_public/c0/fc/c0fcd94d-ad0e-4ac0-947e-b258356fabfd/va65_agot2_faq_v1_4.pdf

But it is no neutral port. After the figth it is the port of Lannister because of his unremoveable power token.

"If the land area connected to the Port is an enemy home area, those Ships instead may immediately be replaced with Ships of that enemy’s House"

I think the question still stands.

My opinion is, that the ships are either destroyed, or Lannister owns them. But if he is able to choose that even though he is not part of the battle, thats the Question.

The land area reverts back to Lannister control as soon as Tyrell retreats because you have no units to occupy it. At that moment, Lannister has the option to either replace the ships with his own or destroy them.

So after the battle, Lannister will be asked if he wants to keep the ships, did I understand that right?

When I attack with my footman and the question pops up for me (GJ) if I want to keep or destroy the ships in case of a victory and I decide "destroy". Will they be destroyed because I won the battle or not because I never really completely conquered it?

My assumption would be this:  GJ can decide, as the attacker/winner whether to burn the ships or keep them alive.  If he chooses to keep them alive, they revert to Lannister due to the unremovable home token.

What Ser Hodor described is likely how it work in practice on this website because the prompt about whether you want to keep the ships happens before you even confirm your march. But that's not how I play it at home on the real game. Unless I'm totally misreading the rules:

If the land area connected to a Port is successfully attacked and taken control of by another player, that player may immediately replace any enemy Ship units in the Port with an equal number of his own available Ship units (or as many Ship units as he has available, he desires, or is allowed by supply limits). Excess enemy ships are simply removed from the board.

The land area was successfully attacked and it was taken control of by another player (specifically, by Lannister). So that player (the one who took control, in this case Lannister) may immediately...

But if the question is how will it be handled specifically on the website, Ser Hodor is probably correct.
