Hi,

this thread was created for players who want to share their experiences with other boardgames. Is there anybody who can recommend the game "Mage Knight"? I'm unsure about buying it... I'm short of money right now but VERY interested in it. Seems to be like Heroes of Might and Magic, doesnt it

I can recommend "Axis and Allies"? But u need time as well as calm Fingers because if the small pieces It is also available as download for Pc and with lots of modifications. I like the "napoleonic times" modification.

Hi, I am a big fan of boardgames, we play with my family and friends every week. I do not know Mage Knight unfortunately. I can safely recommend Battles of Westeros, it is a great war game for two players (https://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/67492/battles-of-westeros). Starcraft is also very good, 2-6 players, somewhat similar to AGOT (https://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/22827/starcraft-the-board-game). Another very good two player game: A few acres of snow (https://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/79828/a-few-acres-of-snow). Very different style, but if you used to play the comp game you will love it: Sid Meier's Civilization (https://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/77130/sid-meiers-civilization-the-board-game).
These are the less popular games I liked very much and I would recommend, of course we play the typical popular family games as well (Agricola, Purto Rico, Catan, Carcassone, Ticket to Ride, Smallworld).

As for other good startegy games, You can try out Eclipse (https://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/72125/eclipse) and Age of Empires (https://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/22545/glenn-drovers-empires-the-age-of-discovery). Both very cool.

Currently my second favorite game besides AGOT is War of the Ring (best with 2 players). But you need endurance, as games can last 7 hours.

Hi,

thx so far! "Mage Knight" turned out to be very cool, but it could sometimes be more dynamic. Especially since I've bought the "Legends of Andor"... Different Monsters are to be held back from the castle by 2-4 different heroes with different powers. The M are moving each day towards their aim... It is a cooperation game with many side tasks and personal destinies. The map is brilliant and has a playable backside! There are 5 legends which are told one by one, but the fan communitiy already created many more which you can download. The first Legend is an inteoduction, but nothingless very nice. You don't have to read a rulebook before you can play. Every board game player can guess the main rules to start with and gets the special rules turn by turn.

I'm looking forward to play and hopefully make the second and third LEGEND of ANDOR.

ps: Amazon sells it for about 25€ only atm.

In my opinion, the board game tends to spiral out of control. With the ages advancing, there are a lot of rules entering the game which you must keep in mind as a player. The thing I love most about GoT: it is manageable all the time, unlike Civ or Risk.

Does anyone have experiences with "Wallenstein"? It looks just great and is historically inspire... antecessor of "Shogun"...
I bought it and could use some hints.

Did anyone use homerules/rules expansions yet?  There's many nice variants possible.

Ecplise is a brilliant 4x experience. I am not familiar with Wallenstein but Shogun is definitely a different and fun experience.

Axis and Allies 1940 global is also a great 1v1 experience which allows for fast, free and reliable pbem online via triplea.

Another favourite is the old classic diplomacy - also open to pbem play.

If you enjoy fast paced cards game dominion is a solid experience.

Last but not least if someone has the time and the patience for something a little more ambitious I am always looking for players wishing to play Here I Stand (also on vassal).

I would love to play diplomacy PBEM.  Where would we do this?

I love A&A 1940…does it not work beyond 1v1?

The shogun you speak of…is it the Milton Bradley game of the 1980's?  if it is it is a great game.  I am definitely looking for a different game experience similar to this one.

Cheers!

Try playdiplomacy.com - it works quite well otherwise oldschool 'diptool' but you need to have a group of friends to play with.

You can play AA1940G as 2v2 as well. If you're up for it send me a PM.

Actually the Shogun I had in mind is this one - https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/20551/shogun.

I just got 7 Wonders for my birthday and I highly recommend it! It's a lot of fun and easy to explain to new players. Games can las as little as 45min, which is nice if you're short on time.

All time favorite board game is twilight imperium 3rd edition. Although you need a considerable amount of time to play 8+ hours

Twilight imperium 3rd edition is really good game, but it is always take so long time.
My shortest game in that has lasted 8,5 hours and longest over 20 hours nonstop, where players where starting get tired and sleeping middle of game because it last so long.
I Think it is only boardgame i know you should never try finish it on one day, unless you play short game or start it early in morning.
My personal favorites are Battlestar galactica, Descent, AGOT and Survive as filler game.

yeah you have to plan a game weeks in advance and make sure everyone is willing to sacrifice a day for the game. I get to play about once a year
