Hi all!

Do you know a good, winning strategy with the Martell? Because i have played with Hause Martell in a last few games, but i have found myself in a loosing situation when the Baratheon and the Tyrell has maked a packt against me.
I think in a 6 players game playing with the Martell can be really hard, meybe harder than playing with the Lannister...

Thx for your answers.

I only won 1 of 6 games with Martell so far. Never played Martell offline

But I would suggest to get rid of either Tyrell or Baratheon by negociation for at least some turns to concentrate on one player. Another possibility is to provoke Stark to attack Baratheon earlier in the game.
Martell has quite offensive cards, imho. So you should attack early.
And do never gather your main fleet in Sea of Dorne, because of Baratheon's "Salladhor Saan" house card.

Just some general ideas/tips from a "Martell noob"

To defeat Tyrell over sea is very hard if he has some ships as support. If Bara and Tyrell are allied, check out if grey and lanister have perhaps an ally too. If they have lanister could be a very strong partner to bring Tyrell in trouble over land. Also think of using the house card "if oyu lose kill the other unit" to kill the ship in "shipbreaker bay" if there is only one ship. But each way and strategy really depends on which units are placed and for sure which house cards are already used.

if both are allied against you i can also be a strategy just to defend you until one of the others (stark, grey or lanister) get too strong or need help so that tyrell or bara moves their troops away from your frontline. (i think this is the most boring way but i have seen often thats its a way with not a such bad chance of success.

Thats what i have tried earlier, but Martell has no good cards for defend, you will lose units with every lost battle and its really hard in that way...

I agree with that.

In my opinion Martell has some serious problems:
1. Every defeat is painful as you have no chance to protect units with fortication symbols on the housecards
2. While Tyrell can farm power tokens at the Arbor, Martell has the only safe chance at Sunspear. But especially after Mustering, i dont want to use a CoP Order, where units just have been mustered.
3. While Tyrell has the chance to invade in Starfall over his ship bridge, Martell has to invade Tyrell overland. That is very difficult as the Dornish Marches and The Reach can be easily supported from Highgarden.

I know that was no strategy for Martell, but i think that are the main reasons, why its so hard for Martell to win the game.

Perhaps a passable border bewteen Three Tower and Princes Path would make some advances for Martell.

i agree, martell is the hardest house to win.
with martell you need alliance with tyrell or bara, so you can concentrate on fighting 1.
but even 1:1 its hard to win, cause tyrell can defend his sea from redwyne, and bara from the bay. so often the only possibility is to attack the ships with help from stark or greyjoy.
if stark helps martell to take shipbreaker, martell is in very strong position, so thats why stark is not often doing that.

I agree as well.

Something about your allies: If you are allied with Tyrell and about to be successful over land vs. Bara, it often happens that Tyrell expands too far into the North and gets too strong. If you have to interfer, because Greyjoy supports Tyrell vs. Lanni and attacks Stark only (Bara only defending), the you're really done afterwards. You won't reach farther than the Reach then and you will be forced to draw back to The Pricess Path so you can backup all your Borders.

So: Do not break your alliance, which ever you've made (Only in very though cases)! Try to win the game faster than your ally and keep concentrating on your enemy.

I managed to win as Martell in 6 players game (ID 1944) confronting both Tyrell and Baratheon in chaotic and manoeuvre game.

I was able to do that by concentrating sparse forces, using offensive house cards (Arianne is among the top of offensive house cards imho) and inflicting high casualties to the enemy, one army at a time, especially to Tyrell, trying to manage losses on my side.

In the end Lannister could decide who is going to sit on the Iron Throne, Stark or me.
Lion has got bad history with Stark throughout the game and my neighbours were mutiliated enough to have not much influence left.

With no ill atitude toward House of Martell Lannister decided to take 6th castle from Stark and seal the game in my favour.

So with much struggle and bit of luck I was able to win being Martell for the second time (I don't even remember the first time).

Indeed, in game on regular basis (no Humpty Dumpty in the beginning) Martell should'nt have to much hope for winning the contest. Nonetheless  making fun by spilling enemy blood on hot dornish sands is good enough reward

Also, usually Martell would CP* at Sunspear at the start of the game and since you can't do that here it just makes things that much more harder. They are sort of in the same boat as Lannister on this one.

I would personally try to get 3 ships in the ESS and every so often put a march +1 order on them and wait for either Baratheon or Tyrell to mess up somehow (be it with ill placed orders or failed attacks) and then steal their seas. This always helps to gain more territory but is unpredictable.

I always try to send a lonely Footman vs. a Knights army in Kamikaze attacks and play Arriane, and that even more often, when I can get her back soon (Wildlings, Deck soon refeshed). ThyLear already mentioned this.

I also try to leave Knights (only) on my Borders with Tyrell, because of Loras and his ability.

Too bad Tyrell has Oleanna to cancel Arianne. But then again, that's the beauty of this game's design.

How sick is this???

After Tyrell decided not to ally with me - well, I was already fighting down Baratheon - I totally went for the clash and saved my money to get the sword. I wanted to win the game by controlling the sea and being able to maneuvre.

Everything went well, Lannister blocked Greyjoy, who had killed Stark. I blocked the Starkean sea zones, so GJ had to take RiverRun to win.

I could also manage to prevent Lannister from winning by taking Crackory point in the last moment possible.

Nothing then, it seemed so, could prevent ME, the little moneygatherer with only a hand full of troops, to win the game.

But well, there was something: Greyjoy saw that it was "Rains of autumn" and that he could take RiverRun now and win.

So crazy... I didnt see this first. I had 3 cities to conquer and needed only 1... I had 2 march orders left and was THAT flexible.

Congrats to Greyjoy. That really surprised me

But hey, I at least came back well - with Martell. In round 4 and 5 a really surprised my opponent Tyrell, I guess.

That was a really interesting game. I don't think I've ever seen a game where someone controls more than half the sea areas!
