Topic: Asha Greyjoy House Card and the additional Lannister Ship
Posted: 2024-Nov-08 23:28
In light of the adaptation of the MoD expansion of the additional ship in the port of Lannisport, which is now also an available option in this forum, I wonder whether it is not also time to implement Asha Greyjoy correctly. The basic rules of the second edition state that a house has the choice to support herself or not. Unfortunately, this option is not integrated in thronemaster.net.
Since Greyjoy has been significantly nerfed by the two Lannister ships, whether Asha's unsupported traits (two swords, one fortification icon) have a legitimate balancing value, at least in the early game, may well have an impact on the course of the game as a whole that is not reflected in the current state of the game. Basically, I see it as an additional weakening of Greyjoy to deny Asha’s troops the option of an orderly retreat.
As Asha Greyiron, I campaigned five years ago for Asha Greyjoy to be given sufficient consideration. Unfortunately, my suggestion was dismissed as a waste of time, especially in PBEM games. I don't think this can still be valid under the newly given state of the game.
What are your thoughts on this?

I may be wrong, but the only person who can make changes is JM Grip.

Certainly. Nonetheless, 'tis a question of consideration whether the argument can be deemed necessary, or not. Do you have something in mind about that very circumstance?

As said, the issue is that the only person that can make changes is not here any more.

But even if/when he cames back, there are already a bunch of requests on his todo list, and Asha is probably in the low-end of these : Greyjoy has already the highest win rate in 6p, so they definitely are not the ones needing for ups.

If you're fan of the character, sorry, it's definitely the worst card of the Grey deck (and even with the change...).
I am a big fan of Margaery on my side, imagine my sadness when seeing her with a miserable 1 card with a tower and nothing else .

Should Asha (and Roose of course) be able to neglect own support? Yes.
Will it be implemented soon? Probably not.
How important is it? Would be pretty nice, but not massively important in my opinion.

About the fan factor:
I recommend 1ed Asha (available on TM) and DWD Margaery (not available on TM). Those are incredible cards!

Let's give the man some time to reflect on his legacy, raise his kids something like half-grown and defend his black belt in karate. I can't imagine that he will remain indifferent to this. Every parent is never spared the question (mum, 5+, dad 6+): ‘What are you actually doing when I'm doing playwork in kindergarten?’. Coders are hobbyists. There are days between a headache and a solution, but in the end there is usually a feeling of happiness (and an answer to the question(s) above).
Thanks for pointing out Roose, dear old Maester, his significant refusal to support should not be forgotten either.
Nevertheless, the question remains as to why pretty much every house is regularly granted at least two proper retreats, while Greyjoy is only allowed one.
I don't think this is or can remain an unimportant question of balance in the West.

Margaery earns her 1 (one deed for Loras). Asha conquers Deepwood Motte, survives Balon (two swords), saves her brother, stands her ground against Euron (sadly, just a fortification icon), and if it wasn't for that one damned tree...
Fan or not, that's not a justification from my point of view and not my motivation. Lore and game logic are to be separated. It's about the second fortification icon for House Greyjoy, which already doesn't have so many swords to counter against whomever, on the contrary ...
