Topic: FAQ and Errata have just been released!
Posted: 2019-Mar-22 01:35
FFG released a new file with FAQ and Errata.
Much FAQ is added and some Errata as well. A lot about the new expansion Mother of Dragons, but definitely not only about the expansion!

Biggest changes
, also for a normal 2nd edition game:

New Lannisters starting position
A ship at the port of Lannisport

New Tiebreakers
The tiebreaker priority at the end of round 10 (previously listed in the third paragraph under “Winning the Game” on page 16 of the rulebook), is now as follows:
1) Most total land areas controlled
2) Highest position on Supply track
3) Highest position on Iron Throne track

Interesting chances,thanks for Sharing!

This allows Lannister to actually hold his Sea against 2nd-Ed Vicatrion/balon in the first round. pretty huge imo!

About the tiebreakers, i feel like this will mostly help Stark and Martell, 2 houses that are strong in tiebreakers anyways.

It will make the 10th round a lot more interesting for sure though!

The extra march -1 order (only for use at ships) that comes with the expansion made it even more necessary to make Lannister a bit better.

I really like the new tiebreaker.

Quite huge change in the lanni gj setup. Removing fortresses from tiebreaker is great imo.

And other surprising stuff aswell, eg winter is coming in westeros deck 2 being resolved immediately and not only after westeros deck 1.

Very interesting, thanks a lot !

The Lanni change is huge and very well done from my point of view - can give PTs from port, support... The frist turn orders will be hard for Lanni and only one can be changed by raven.

Great stuff to change the tiebreaker as well.

And good precisions like on the timing of the Winter is Coming card. I do like that !

I think this is the biggest change overall. This means that a weak house gets overrun very quickly once the first defense fell.
Strong houses on the offense benefit greatly from this on the other side.

I dont like it at first glance.

I like the expansion very much. I've played it two times now, Lannie85 visited me to play. Next Sunday we play again
The added features are great.
-Iron Bank = awesome addition.
-vassal system = very good. Playing with less than max players is not a problem now. The vassal system is a nice addition, so nice that I almost felt the urge to intentionally not play with the max amount of players.
-House Targaryen = nicely done, with the Dragon units that increase in power of the duration of the game.
-House Arryn = a strong turtle
-House Tyrell becomes stronger, he starts with a star and will have more space to 'breathe', since Martell could head east or gets pressure from the east.

Playing the expansion feels refreshing. In comparison to the normal 2nd edition, the Mother of Dragons expansion feels a bit less like chess. Due to some randomness with the Iron Bank, the dragon units and 'who controls the vassal', there is less room for detailed pre-established strategies.

Don't know for the expansion, but the extra ship for Lanni will probably greatly balance the GJ/Lanni fight, and by rebound also weaken Stark - GJ is more likely to go North with that, which cripples Stark no matter what he does.

Martell, we have seen it with the recent Championship, is very strong well played. I think the main issue now will probably be that Tyrell still has his very difficult game start if there is no muster, but we will see. They would probably have benefited as well from an extra ship, but may be a balance breaker against Martell as well...

Always super tough to find the right placing !

Tyrell is very strong in the expansion though (starts with a star). Now that Lannister has that extra ship, Baratheon is in the toughest place in MoD.

Sorry, was not clear but I was only talking about the vanilla game - I love the 6 player standard one, saying that now Tyrell had the hardest play.

For what I have seen indeed, Bara is almost impossible to play if Targ is present indeed with that middle of board / surrounded position. Makes a nice vassal with the Iron Throne.

I'll have to agree with everything We finally get to play this expansion with four players, and it was amazing! It was very long game tough, about six hours, mainly because two of us were beginners in the base game.

I especially liked the vassal system. It was very interesting to think who you should pick for your vassal and what to do with him, because he could be your opponents vassal next round. I liked it so much, that I don't think I'll ever want to play this with max players. I'm curious to see how the game changes with more players and fewer vassals.

We found one thing that was a bit confusing about vassals. When in combat, vassals take seven sellsword cards, shuffle them and draw 3 for their hand. The big question is, when two vassals are in combat, who gets to draw first? We couldn't find any mention about this in the rulebook, faq, errata, or internet. We figured that it is done by iron throne order, but it would be nice to know for sure.

It was also very comforting to see that Targaryen is more than just dragons and don't debent on them very heavily, atleast not when against beginners. In our game Targ was unlucky to lose all his dragons in early game, but he was still fighting for the victory until the very end.

It doesn't matter
Think about it:
Vassal 1 draws 3 random cards out of the 7. Vassal 2 draws 3 random cards out of the remaining 4. Nobody looks at the 1 leftover card, the card none of them have drawn.
Both players have only knowledge about the 3 cards in their hand. It is an equal situation.
You could also just shuffle the complete vassal deck and give both vassals 3 cards and don't look at the 7th leftover. Same situation.

I think it can matter a lot. First one may draw 3 best cards and second is left with much worse cards. So first one to draw gets a huge advance.

As it is a pure random, Visara is right. Beornegar, the second player may as well get the "good cards".

Beornegar, you realise the vassals draw 3 random cards? They can't pick.
