Good point Harakon. The above top 20 is not meant as ideal deck. It is a simple draft of top 20.

You will not have 20 times Wayne Gretzky on your team. But still he will be the no.1 of all time NHL draft.

So it serves as a leaderboard of cards. Let me also create my ideal deck and post it below.

4 - Red Viper
3 - Loras Tyrell
2 - Balon Greyjoy
2 - Roose Bolton
1 - Blackfish
1 - Saladhor Saan
0 - Doran Martell

Would not it be sweet?

Wait, what makes you choose the red viper now, instead? I think it's interesting how you use Doran as your deterrence, where other players might use swords. I think it'd be very rare that you'd see Roose, Loras, or Balon in the same deck.

Doran holds no power over someone low on the king's court track or below you on feifdoms. That doesn't discount other points you've made about him, but I think it's worth pointing out.

Arianne makes a lot of strategies viable that would otherwise be shutdown easily by another player. This is especially important in sea battles and control, and in late game.

Roose doesn't let you win every battle. He lets you win half of them, so he's all about how well you determine when the important battles happen, and making your lost battles unimportant.

I'd probably switch Saladhor for Arianne, and Doran for the Queen of Thorns, but other than that, I think that's the best. Psh Baratheon and Lannister cards. Who needs them.

I probabily don't have the time to play regularly by forum, but i strongly invite you to try this one!

I played about 15 games on board with different arrangements, meaning:
-Chosing decks (between cards of 2nd edition and the posterior expansion)
-Plays with more than one family at the same time
-Changing the starting families and territories fortifications values
-etc

I can say that the tactics and plays are very different and it is really motivating to catch the new possibilities, almost all games where amazing (strategically speaking)! Only one or two where to quick due to a exceeding strenght of a family, and some luck too of course.

If you guys don´t mind to have some sporadic stallings, i would gladly join!

Peace

Strange double post from mobile phone. Could someone delete my double post above.

Deranger you have a good point about importance of 4 value card having swords. It could be argued that Viper and Eddard are strategically better than Mace/Stannis/Tywin as they punish attacks on you by killing units.

Perhaps they should both move up 2-3 positions in my draft!? I forgot about this aspect of dettering battles. It is indeed powerful to have 2 swords on 4 value card. Even though Mace or Stannis allow for higher raw power which can be sometimes key.

Yeah, I find that the times where the one conditional extra power makes the difference is rare. Both Stannis and Mace are pretty easy to guard against. On the other hand, if you kill a unit, that opponent loses that strength forever (less if they muster it back, more if their lack of units prevents them from grabbing new territory).

I haven't really looked into how much work it would be to run this on play by forum. I'll look into it when I have a bit of time, unless someone else wants to moderate (that shouldn't block you from playing, I trust you).

Quite much on line with Deranger here. You over estimate Stannis, Tywin and Mace. Besides naval battles are most likely battles where you want to be able to shine. I would prefer Balon over Roose as it will give you the needed firepower. It is not always that simple to use Roose all the time.

Arianne is a very very good card. It will give you tremendous help keeping your naval territories as you can either muster to the lost land over move back to it. Also prevent people attacking you in last round etc. Besides deck without swords is so easy to just give constant pressure to use you high cards.

I can join the game also.

Also it makes a lot difference if the positions are taken before or after the cards. Doran will gain value if you take your position after choosing the cards as people would naturally avoid you. Also if your neighbor takes Loras, Arianne will have greater value for you. Anyway the card decisions are quite much dependent on everything.

So here is what I see so far.

Want to play:
deranger
Bukavu
Bowl o Brown
rangercardoso

Commenting significantly and may want to play:
BranisStannis
Cornie4ever
Harakon

Wanting to be asked:
Stannis Baratheon

So, there are a total of 8 interested parties with 2 spots left for the last 5 people mentioned or anyone else that shows up and wants in.

Let's get this started, I would be happy to be the playing or unplaying moderator but I will be traveling until the 8th.  I will have internet access but perhaps should not be expected to upload maps until I get back.  But, I expect that the draft would take a few days anyhow...

Thoughts?

Personally, I'd want to play with just base 2nd edition stuff, just as I'm more familiar with that. I also think that playing around with the balance of different things a little bit at a time, rather than being overwhelmed, would be cool.
I also think 5 or 6 player should be fine, as that'd result in quicker turn around times. Getting two games would be cool. A user or reddit was interested too. Bukavu, do you have any experience in moderating play by forum? That's obviously not required, I'm just wondering. We can also pass around the manager position as needed.
