Sure, it was just an example but, believe me, things like this can easily happen and will happen because there are more than 10 good elements you can choose. The first five players can try to avoid it but it isn't so easy if the sixth is a very good player too and will be able to find a way to make a good choice.

Anyway you can try your scheme and let me know how it will work. At least we'll learn something new!

Also, There are more than 66 draftable things due to the added freedom to starting spots.
Ok, as I said, I didn't read the whole thread. We just draft the standard starting position without any change in it. I'll gladly follow this game with a lot of interest!

I have my board setup on my table to track everything, it may take a bit of time to get the picture files right on the forum, but I will work on that as you guys start your draft.  Please understand that I have no allegiance to any particular house or player and will be acting impartially.  Since this is the first time that any of us has done this, please feel free to suggest ideas as they come up.  I do propose that we have a new thread for each turn so there are not 40+ pages to sort through...  Please reply to this message as soon as possible, we want to get the six players confirmed and started.

Once I go home for Winter Break, I'll try and host one. Bukavu, you've been a great host, it's a crime you haven't had the chance to play. Of the players currently signed up, would you guys be more or less interested if AFFC's Arryn's and ADWD's house cards were mixed in, where basically a random subset of all of those cards were available? I suppose it might be a bit much for the first go, but it's definitely a way to ensure every game is different.

I'd prefer the standard House cards from 2nd Edition simply because the cards from DWD are very board and house specific. Plus having multiple 4 power leaders per house seems pretty overpowered. SOMEDOY has to take Catelyn and Cersei.

I've been following this concept and pbf topic since discussion started with great interest.
I once suggested my friends that we should try this variant in real physical board, even though no of us has a lot experience of the game.

Last saturday we finally had time to get together five (six would of course be better, but it is extremely difficult to get that much of us together) players and decided to give this a try. Unfortunately we dropped to just four players.
We still wanted to try, even though with just four players and an obvious change in the rules (ports and castle/stronghold changes would be at least very difficult, so we left this rule out), all of us accepted the fact that this game could easily turn out to be very uneven.

This variant prove to be very fun and balanced. It of course might be because our lack of experience. Due to number of players everyone had much place to get 5 castles, after that things went more diffucult.

In drafting we used simple order 1234 1234... Everyone took that the most fair opinion.
We also used just Stark, Bara, Lanni and GJ housecards, just because game owner had set the game to default four player setting in advance, just in case somebody wouldn't want to try this variant and we were so exited to get this thing going that I realized missing cards just after I was searching for Loras at turn 3. Nobody didn't mind and didn't want to start drafting from beginning.

To sum up, for players with a little experience this was a great success, actually all of us liked this more than the normal 2nd ed. game. No we are just impatiently waiting for a chance to play with six players!
